Washington Street wherever there’s cool places to hang out

Hoboken, New JerseyApr 05, 20110 Comments

This is a very trendy street in Hoboken, with about a dozen restaurants/bars/coffee shops. It was ranked one of the top 10 great streets for 2010 by the American Planning Association. Unfortunately, in addition to teens and young adults and families hanging out here after school, so does a bevy of traffic enforcement officers. The police scour this street virtually any sunny afternoon for drivers with cell phone, red light, crosswalk and left turn violations. There’s also very aggressive nighttime enforcement and many intermittent daytime speed traps. Furthermore, there’s no speed limit sign anywhere on this street, so it’s assumed to be 25 under state law. Don’t you know how much police in trendy towns like these enjoy simply refusing to put in a speed limit sign when they want it to be 25 so they can make more drivers stuck with the "I forgot that if there’s no speed limit sign on a neighborhood street, it’s 25 in New Jersey." excuse!? If you feel you’re too vulnerable to get a ticket if you drive where the cool places in Hoboken are like I am, try a not-so-traveled street as far away from the Hudson River as possible, such as Palisade Avenue. I hope my advice helped you!
