Washtenaw Avenue near S. University Avenue

Police cars sit in the parking lot of the First Presbyterian Church to watch for people speeding as they approach campus. They also pull people over for turning right at red lights (no turn on red)

Comments:
I received a ticket for going five over on Washtenaw a block or so south of South U in November, 2007 or '08; can't remember the year for sure but recall the month because it was on my birthday. A few months later they raised the limit by 10 miles. I felt like asking for a refund. So, this used to be a speed trap but now, I would say no.

I received a ticket for turning right on a red light from South University onto Washtenaw going east on a Saturday afternoon in January 2010 with light traffic. I didn't just stop and turn; I actually waited several seconds before making my turn. Yet although there was nothing otherwise unsafe about my turn or driving, I was pulled over by an Ann Arbor police officer who was hiding in that parking lot up the hill and couldn't be seen until it was too late. There was no other possible reason that he could have pulled me over unless he was watching very closely and therefore "cherry picking" for revenue. The officer was rude and aggressive as he ticketed me for making a no-right turn on red. He then had the nerve to ask me, "Do you have any questions?" but when I made a comment about his unethical cherry-picking, he walked away. I was so angry that I later wrote him a letter telling him where to go as I hope everyone else will who has been his victim.
