West Casino Rd (just West of Fred Meyer to 4th)

Everett, WashingtonMay 02, 20103 Comments

Officers stand on either side of the road on Casino with radar guns, well before school zone area, to catch anyone not reducing speed quickly enough from 35 to 20. Any excess above 20 will get you ticketed. It doesn’t matter if there are any children present, and the fact is that there are far more kids on Casino around Walter Hall Park than in front of the school (due to the off-road drive that parents use in front of the school.)

Comments:
I was caught by this speed trap as I was unfamiliar with the area and trying to find the address where I was to pick up my kids. Unfortunately there are also signs that say "school zone when blinking"... they were'nt blinking at the time & yet I was still ticketed. I turned the next corner, picked up my kids who were waiting outside and came back past and the cop was already gone. So I was the last "catch" of the day. I went to court & was able to defer the ticket. I got 1 year probation & $1,750 of a $2,000 fine suspeneded. PS... There's no mercy... I am a grandmother!

In 2012: There are three entries here which are virtually identical. This is one of them. Especially during school season, virtually every day there are at least 2 Everett police officers at the school on Casino, in-between 4th/5th and Evergreen, which the commenter refers to. If you turn onto Casino from 4th/5th, you have a split second to see the 20 mph/flashing yellow light, as it's too close to the intersection. I got lucky one time and had the motorcycle cop two in front of me, no doubt readying himself for his collection duties (it was before the time, and I wondered where he was going, which then got me to notice the sign). I've never missed it since. They'll set up prior to 2:30, which is the afternoon time when the lights start to flash and they raise their radar guns in sync, I've seen it! They'll even deliberately press the button for the nearby pedestrian crosswalk to go amongst the stopped cars to motion people over, whether it's speeding or not wearing a seatbelt. This is a major revenue raiser for the City of Everett! It's best to take an alternative route!

I got a ticket in the exact same situation on West Casino Road. This is a huge speed trap for the city of Everett. Even if you weren't speeding they'll just write indiscriminate tickets for it. You can subpoena the officer and they will lie on the stand to convict you. The judges are generally sympathetic to the officers. Officer Pete Hegge is known for writing numerous erroneous tickets to people going well below the speed limits. I'm surprised he's still employed by the city of Everett and hasn't been reprimanded for this.
