Dickson, Tennessee Speed Traps
US Highway 70 near County line
County, city and state patrols sit at pull off at Humphreys/Dickson County line
Hwy 46 from Hwy. 70 to the redlight at the Bank of Dickson.
This is a short 1/2 to 1 mile section of road where the speed limit is 30mph. The rest of this road is 40 mph. There is no change in the traffic patterns or roadway, it is all 4 lane with a turning lane. So why the change in speed limit if this is not a speed trap? The Dickson police officers frequently patrol this area and tend to sit off the roadway just past the sonic in a parking lot with radar pointed toward the oncoming traffic. Dickson also has a speed trap on the 70 Bypass in front of the Co-op store. Speed limit is 35 and the police love to sit in this area and ticket those going over the speed limit.

I was stopped recently (7/10/02) for doing 49 in a 30 zone. The officer said that they were "cracking down" in order to reduce the number of accidents. This is a 4-lane highway with a turn lane, and 30 seems numbingly slow, so it’s very easy to exceed it. From the officer’s comment, I expect their enforcement to continue for the forseeable future.
