I-240 (North Side of Loop)

Memphis, TennesseeNov 24, 20031 Comments

If you are traveling east or west on I-40 approaching Memphis, I would recommend taking the south leg of the I-240 loop, which runs past Memphis International Airport. I represent many truckers who get ticketed for speeding along the north side of the I-240 loop, which has a much higher police presence. Police will park just over the crest of several small hills running along the north loop or sometimes park up on the ramp area under the bridges to carry out their quotas. There is not a significant mileage difference either way you travel to justify taking the north leg of I-240.

Two cops sit at the entrance to the University of Memphis children’s education(or whatever its called) building. I usually see them as I get out of class around 7 pm.

Walnut Grove from Farm road to Christian Brothers High School

This 1 mile stretch of Walnut Grove has three spots where cops sit. The first occurs as you head eastbound over I-240. A cop often sits in the CBHS parking lot radaring. Occasionally there is a cop at the light at the Humphreys intersection.
The worst part is as you drive through Shelby Farms. The road becomes a 4 lane divided road with a speed limit of 45. Police sit either at the farm road intersection or at the soccar fields. This is especially bad when coming from the west where the speed limit is 55, then drops to 45 at the farm road intersection.

Eastbound Sam Cooper b/w Grahm and Perkins

As you come to the top of the hill midway between the 2 exits, state troopers sometimes are sitting off in the grass out of sight. They have even put down a small blacktop off in the grass where they sit.

Eastbound I-40 exit 14/

Cop sits in the grass under the bridge. They will also sometime sit at the top of the overpass on the other side and will radar you as you pass under the bridge. Watch out for pacers. They’ve gotten me 4 times. Last time the cop added on 7 mph so watch out.
