4 to 5 percent grade down the mountain from Monterey to Cookeville with curves. State Police sit on the shoulders and in the medians, behind trees, and even behind overpass pillars at mile marker 303 1/2. posted speed is 65 for cars & 55 for trucks.

I-40 east & westbound at mm 305 and mm 299 there ore overpasses over the interstate and the highway patrol sits in the median behind the pillars posted speed is 70 mph.

I-40 east & westbound mm 307 there is a median turn around that the Tn. Highway Patrol sits in watching both ways it is well covered with trees and you cannot see him until you go by him the posted speed is 70 mph.

I-40 westbound mile marker 297 to 292 is all downhill winding highway with a 5 % grade posted speed for truckers is 55 mph and 65 for cars. The officers sit on the shoulders and in the medians for this run as drivers are driving at 70 to 80 mph. many a truck have wrecked thru this area. The Highway Patrol has at least 2 trucks pulled over on this stretch every time I make the run.
