State Highway 55 near Warren County/Coffee County line

Morrison, TennesseeDec 31, 20030 Comments

Just past the Warren County line coming into Morrison on Highway 55 the speed limit drops from 55 to 45. This is a well maintained stretch of divided 4 lane highway and most of the traffic is moving at 65-70 before reaching the speed zone. The highway patrol likes to sit at the bottom of the hill and clock people. It’s not uncommon for there to be two cars facing opposite directions so that they can clock both directions. The Warren County sherrif’s department also works this area from time to time and the DOT spends a lot of time in this area setting up mobile scales and checking log books on the trucks coming into the factories. The sherrif’s department reached a new low this year when the Bonnaroo music festival was in Manchester. This event draws thousands of mostly teenage festival goers each year and Highway 55 is one of the main entry points so the sherrif’s department set up roadblocks at the county line and made numerous arrests for simple possesion in an attempt to pad their pockets. The local judge threw out the charges because he saw it as the harassment that it was, but that’s just another example of what goes on around this stretch of road. Be careful!
