Access Rd, just after coming down the off-ramp on the Lake Austin Blvd exit from Mopac South.

Austin, TexasMay 13, 20020 Comments

Officers sit on side streets that intersect the access rd. The speed limit on Mopac is 65. Coming down a very short exit ramp to a 35mph zone can be tough, and most of us are not used to heavy braking down a straight off-ramp, so we get caught as we enter the access rd. Most people are still traveling somewhere in the mid-forties when the cop pops out behind them. There are no warnings given. The traps are intermittent. Take the Enfield exit if you can’t brake hard coming off the highway.

FM969 just east of Webberville

Just east of Webberville on FM969 (no one knows where that is so I put Austin, as it’s just east of Austin), there is a north stretch of road that is straight for 2 miles, just past Post Oak Road. It is very easy to find yourself accelerating above the speed limit, which is posted at 55mph, and I think the signs may not be anywhere on that stretch. Unobscured line of sight, smooth road, the next thing you know you have to hit the brakes and slow down from the 75mph you can creep up to. A state trooper will sit either on a little feeder road at the bottom of the stretch of road, or wait at the bottom of the curve as you head into Webberville. I got popped going 61mph, only given a verbal warning, but I’ve seen cars getting pulled over on either side of Webberville, but mostly on the east side. It appears to be only at the beginning and end of the month, mostly at AM drive time but also a bit at PM drive time.

MOPAC just before RR2222

Austin, TexasMay 13, 20020 Comments

Going North or South on MOPAC there’s a section of trees just before you get to RR2222 heading south or just past RR2222 going North. Two patrol cars will be just past the trees, can’t see them until your right next to them.

South of Austin 8 miles from San Marcos on I35

Austin, TexasMay 13, 20020 Comments

Frontage roads along I35 are posted 55 MPH. I35 zoomes along at 70 (and over) but watch these frontage roads, there are more sheriff cars here than at the Krispie Kream Shop. (Donut place)

Mopac Between Baker and Burnet/ Duval Overpass

Cops (APD) park on IBM property on east side of freeway behind lots of trees. I am IBM employee and watch them stage 3-4 cops inline on service road entrance from IBM. You can not see them as freeway sets 100-200 yards away. Appears to be speed comparsion of traffic flow with other vehicle you are traveling with.. If you are passing any vehicles Cops pull out of IBM…Merge onto freeway and shoot the “Gun”” from behind Watched them hand out 20 plus tickets one day…..”
