Austin, Texas Speed Traps
183 at the Mopac Overpass
Motorcycle cops sit behind the unfinished concrete barriers on the 183 East bound lanes. They sit behind these barriers half-covered and use both radar and laser.
Corner of Duval and Dean Keaton (University Area)
The motorcycle cop sits on side road and catches people with frequency. The cop who pulled us over, a young family of four, seemed to make a point of finding as many things wrong with the car (insurance, etc.) as he possibly could. He was mean and robotic and I know of two others who have been ticketed in the same area. The scam is at the bottom of the hill coming down from I-35 so you build up speed on a two lane road without realizing what is going on. The posted speed limit is not easily seen because there are so many signs and traffic moves rapidly in all directons. There are few light on the road, too. There is an elementary school not three block away and they never set up a speed trap for that. I guess the revenue is not that predictable.
2222 between Mesa and 360
Single Motorcycle, will use the 2222 Design center to hide or one of the small side streets at the bottom of the hill. Seems to be heaviest mid morning when traffic lightens up enough for the officers to safely pull people over.
Southwest Parkway west of Mopac by St Andrew’s School
Biker cops and unmarked cars are getting aggressive against eastbound traffic that gets rolling down the hill east of Wm Cannon Drive
