Main Street near State Highway 5

Coppell police on their fancy BMW motorcycles do all they can to slow down people at this part of the road. They also use airplane surveillance and will write for as little as eleven over. Be Careful.

Interstate 635 near Freeport Parkway

Coppell, TexasSep 18, 20050 Comments

Travelling I.H 635 westbound, towards DFW airport, or Hwy 121. After passing Beltline Road, carefully check the 150 yards after the Freeport bridge. Cops are often keeping an eye on the 635 traffic, parked at the westbound ramp of the Freeport bridge. I seldom see anybody pulled over though.

Next enforcement point on westbound 635 is after Royal Lane exit, after the bridge, in the long downhill before 635 branches off into Hwy 121 north, and DFW airport/121 south. Look for police SUV’s on the grass embankment (Grapevine, TX jurisdiction)

Sandy Lake Road near State Road

This location is where north of Freeport Parkway changes from 4 lanes of concrete, to 2 lanes of asphault. This 2 lane section of State Road is approx. 1/2 mile long between Freeport Pkwy until it ends at the T-Intersection of State & Sandy Lake roads. It is densely covered with trees and tall shrubs, and several hills which gives officers numerous hiding places. The speed limit is 30 MPH, and in my opinion is poorly posted. Coppell officers setup on this spot DAILY throughout business hours (7am – 5pm). Officers will issue tickets for as little as 5 MPH over the posted limit anywhere in the industrial business district, but especially here.

State Highway 121

121 Highway going north past McKinney and Lewisville exit split; as Hwy 121 turns into 121 bypass into Coppell. Police hide around corner or underpass; motorcycle and SUV; 55 mph speed limit not posted; unfair as you are driving downhill and speed limit is difficult to monitor around turn; sudden braking may cause an accident to reduce speed; Simple solution is to post a sign and warn drivers rather than take advantage of road conditions to issue tickets.
