This is Jamica Beach and the speed limit goes from 55 to 35 in a matter of seconds. They sit in their cars and watch for those who do not slow down. The 35 speed limit last for only a few minutes, then goes back to 55.

Broadway Street near Interstate 45

The Galveston police (motorcycle patrol) hide along the mid section of Broadway coming onto the island and all the way down Broadway towards the East end of the island. They sit on their motorcycles among the trees and bushes along Broadway running radar and checking for expired tags.

State Route Broadway near US Highway 87

Motorcycle patrolmen lay in wait for speeders going to UTMB Hospital. Sick! I just wanted to visit my dying friend before going to work one morning and was stopped. Officer had to meet that ticket quota. Bad speed trap for hospital patients, nurses, doctors and visitors. Don’t bother with an excuse they’ve heard it all.

Harborside Road near 29th Street

Galveston, TexasJul 14, 20050 Comments

Harborside is the commercial road from I-45 to the tourist Strand area, UTMB and the Cruise ships. It is really a good 4 lane farm-to market quality road with few stop lights. It is 45 mph to within a block of a left hand bend where it drops to 35. Most motorists go 50+ mph on the straight stretches and may not notice the 35 mph signs. As you round the bend, 2 motorcycle officers will be there with laser guns. Radar detectors will not go off since the officers aim lower than the windshield (my experience). You will get no warning before going around the bend. They come out randomly, and will take you around the corner in front of the Moody Center to write the ticket. This road should be avoided, especially when there is light traffic. I Suggest you go straight off the Causeway onto Broadway – and all its lights – to avoid this trap, or pay very close attention
to the speed signs.
