State Hwy 67 south, between Alvarado & Cleburne

Keene, TexasJun 26, 20031 Comments

School Zone just east of Cleburne Bypass on State Hwy 67, in the town of Keene. Two-lane westbound opened May 2003. Hwy is heavily traveled by semi’s & dump trucks. Eastbound & westbound are divided by large median. Be extra careful coming into Keene going westbound. Approximately a 1/2- mile before actual crossover in school zone there is a school crossing sign & flashing yellow light; note, they are only on the right curb entering into the town. There is a slight inclined hill before going into the school zone, with a declining hill following. The flashing light is a few yards past the crest of the hill. When a dump truck or semi is in the right lane & you are in the left lane beside them it is impossible for you to see the flashing yellow light. The TX DOT is looking into having flashing yellow lights put on left curb in median west & eastbound so drivers in left lane are warned of school zone – this could take up to a year to pass. Judge in Keene has no tolerance to speeding in this zone, even when you did not see the flashing yellow light because it was obstructed from your view. (Patrol car sits in crossover west of flashing light.)
