Lott, Texas Speed Traps

The speed limit is 70 then drops to 55 abruptly. Some where after that the limit drops to 45 according to the officer who stopped me. The offer was facing east and west and stopped for speeding north and south on 77. The officer took several minutes to approach my vehicle and aske why i was speeding. I informed him the last spped limit sign saw was 55 mph before town. He informed me there is a 1000 yards of 45 mph speed limit after the 55 mph sign. I told him i must have missed it with all the street signs and Hwy 77 signs all over. The officer said he would be right back with me. About 5 minutes later the officer came back and gave me a ticket for speeding 60 in a 45 and asked if I had any questions. As I drove off I noticed a 70 mph speed limit sign going south so why is there 3 different speed zones within a mile of each other in both directions. After reading other posts about Lott, TX I see why it is a speed trap now. Also wondering why my ticket says I was exeding the posted speed limit for the type and make of vehicle (I was in a Chevy Tahoe pulling a small cargo trailer). The office also did not indicate wether he was using stationary radar or moving radar.

The revenue generation experts hide their cars in the bushes and trees on the North side of town on 77 and behind the gentle hills on the east side of town on 320. Watch the ditches on the west end of town on 320. the South end of 77 has many run down buildings to conceal a radar trap and a long highway to allow a clear shot. This town generates substantial income by traffic tickets and as fewer than 2000 residents and less than a dozen businesses. Highest paid employee is the "judge" that collects the money.

They used to have a great western wear store in this town, but all the speeding tickets made it close up. Everyone quit coming to it. I would say drive around this place if you can, but you can’t be on watch. I had my first speeding ticket here after 30 years without one.

Signs before and after city limits are posted in regular intervals. Once you pass the city limits sign, very far outside of this small town, the speed drops from 70 to 55. You will not see any additional speed limit signs while heading north on 77.

The entire town of Lott from one speed limit to the next is a speed trap. You go from 70 to 55 then 55 to 30 and if you don’t slow down fast enough – forget it. This is their entire town budget.
