N Broadway Avenue near Gentry Parkway

Tyler, TexasJun 29, 20060 Comments

If you go South from Gentry toward downtown in the morning, you stand a good chance of meeting a motorcycle cop with a radar gun. The road dips to go under the railroad tracks, and there he sits, on the other side. You can’t see him until you reach the dip, and then it’s too late. Speed limit is 30, which is ridiculously low for the area.

Cumberland Road near Paluxy Drive

Tyler, TexasMar 06, 20060 Comments

Officer in a vehicle, under the shade of a very lovely tree, just on the right side of the road on the soft shoulder, almost like its parked in front of one of the houses (NOT!)

The limit here is mixed 40/45 but a lot of people cut through MUCH faster. Be the most careful when heading to Paluxy from Broadway, though if there is oncoming traffic they will always flash their brights to alert you to the officer’s presence. I usually see this spot patrolled at lunch time during the week, but they’re known to lurk it at almost any time of day. I’ve never been cited by Tyler PD, and I plan to keep it that way.

State Highway 110 near Pleasant Hill Baptist Church

Tyler, TexasAug 02, 20050 Comments

Speed limit goes from 70 to 55 on highway 110 coming into Tyler. About a 1/8th mile into the 55 zone, there’s a church on a hill on the west side of the road. State Troopers occasionally sit in a parking lot just north of the church, which you can’t see until you’re busted.

State Highway 31 West near 323 Loop

Tyler, TexasJul 15, 20050 Comments

When comming into town on hwy 31,the speed limit drops to 45 well before you get to loop 323. A motorcycle cop sets behind the cars in Hall Buick.GMC dealership. Because the speed limit changes too far back away from the loop, people tend to go through the speed limit sighn @ 55 mph. DON’T.

University Boulevard near 323 Loop

Tyler, TexasJun 08, 20051 Comments

On University Blvd./Spur 248 between Lazy Creek and Loop 323. There is a school zone that you won’t know is active if you turn off of Lazy creek. Cops on bikes and in cars will wait in dry cleaner’s parking lot. They will also use 2 vehicles. One in plain sight, the other hidden well just over the hill. Also, the limit drops from 55 to 35 just prior to the loop. No warnings.
