Arlington, Virginia Speed Traps
Lee Highway Road near North Quantico Street
Traveling west-south on Lee Highway toward 66 and away from Arlington. Police park motorcycles on side street and as drivers pass over crest of hill and down slope, police step out from behind light posts and "shoot" cars with Lidar. Catching drivers as cars naturally acclerate on downhill slopes are a favorite strategy of Arlington police.
S. George Mason Drive near S. Dinwiddie Street
Traveling north on South George Mason after the light after Route 7 there is a steep downhill slope. The speed limit is like 35 and the hill is so steep you basically have to ride the brake all the way down to keep the car from accelerating above the limit. I saw them pull a Taxi over for going 5 mph above. Two years ago I used to take this route to work every day and almost every morning and noontime they were out there pulling folks over. Sometimes with marked cars, sometimes unmarked cars, sometimes motorcycle cops. They would parallel park the cars/bikes to hide them. On occasion, when they figured people got too smart they would move the trap up to the bend just before Four Mile Run and shoot people coming around the bend, just to keep you alert.
Glebe Road At 16th St. and Stafford St.
Cops will stand on the side of the road in the Mt. Olivet church parking lot with their radar gun up. Beware
Williamsburg Blvd
Sits in parallel parked car on right side of road and nabs you as you come over the hill on Williamsburg down to N. Harrison St.
Columbia Pike I-95 South
Cops sit on the corner right before the I-95 exit as you head EAST on Columbia Pike, Ive seen a few laser cops working on a team with officers sitting in Patrol Cars under the overpass with a slew of cars pulled over.
