Arlington, Virginia Speed Traps
S George Mason Dr & S Columbia Pike
LEOs sit in parking lot for strip mall on W side of S George Mason, obsucred by a landscaping wall gunning southbound traffic in this 30 MPH zone.
Lee Highway (US-29)
Cops usually hide on N. Powhatan Street (the one after– if you’re heading West– Ottawa Street and John Marshall). Since that part of Lee Highway (US-29) is on a hill, people have a tendency to speed.
Interstate 395 North near Exit Number Between 7B and 8A
I live next to 395 and I see at least one car per evening (usually after dark) pulled over in the Northbound lane. I believe they hide near the entrance ramp for Quaker Lane and finally get cars pulled over about 3/4 of a mile away, right outside my apartment. Remember people, the speed limit on 395 is 55mph, even if you rarely see half that on your commute!
S. Walter Reed Drive near S. Dinwiddie Street
Arlington police vehicle usually out of sight on S. Dinwiddie St. about 50 ft inside Arlington near juncture of Arlington/Alexandria/Fairfax County. Usually uses a hand-held lidar. Targets southbound vehicles. 30 MPH speed increases to 35 when entering Alexandria even though road characteristics are essentially the same. When present, it is usually during the day. End-of-month is more common.
Carlin Springs Road near Edison Street
Headed toward George Mason, you come over a rise after Greenbrier and the kops have their set-up on the corner of Edison and Carlin Springs Road under the trees. They are on the sidewalk. They usually wear iridescent green striped vests, and you can usually spot them in time to slow down if you are paying attention. They are here occasionally soon as the weather turns nice. One of their favorite spots to predate upon the public. Not sure if they used LIDAR, but they have radar guns. Normally in the morning; sometimes in the afternoon. Not seen after dark.
