Culpeper, Virginia Speed Traps
Town of Culpeper
They spend more time sitting Radar then anything else, Rte 29 business, main st, east and west st,blue ridge ave and just about any place in town. 5 and over and they got you
U.S. Hwy. 29 North of Exit for VA-3/U.S. Hwy. 522
Police sit in divider area of U.S. Hwy. 29, hidden by trees. They can monitor traffic in either direction on 29
On 29N
Actually the police on motorcycle sit on the route 3 bridge that crosses both north and south bound lanes of 29. From that bridge, the officer uses his "gun" to check the traffic on 29. The time I saw it, they were checking the northbound traffic, but could easily check the southbound traffic as well.
James Madison Hwy & Dirt Rd
Culpeper County Sheriff cruiser likes to beam northbound traffic on rt. 15 where speed limit drops to 45. This can be expensive because drivers rightly travel 66mph on the 55mph highway and don’t notice the inconspicuous sign saying 45mph. The 45mph limit is improperly placed far from town, as is common in Virginia for revenue-enhancement purposes.
US Highway 29 near Exit Number Route 3
The police sit in the median of 29 checking northbound traffic about 1/2 mile north of route 3. They have a perfect hiding spot behind a tree, by the time you see them its too late, and they can fit more than one car in the hiding spot. I see a cop there at least twice a week. The posted speed is 60mph, flow of traffic is 75mph. Don’t ever get caught in virginia going more then 20mph over the limit.
