Dulles, Virginia Speed Traps

Picking up a Dulles rental car just after dark, I was looking for signs to guide me to DC while on a four lane connector to the highway. A car with very bright lights pulled close behind me, making it hard to see anything. As I was moving along with other traffic in the left of two lanes, I thought I was holding this guy up, and sped up to pull into a gap in the right hand lane to let him by. Flashing lights came on. Turns out it is a construction zone, and I never saw the speed limit sign. I was just driving along with other traffic trying to find my way. Seems he follows people from the rental car lots after dark and nails them while ignoring ‘locals’ driving the same speed. Since then (on other trips), I have seen police cars pulled off the road near the rental car lots – waiting? Be careful out there!

Anywhere on Dulles Airport is a bad place to break the rules! I have heard rumors that the cops don’t have radar, but they do use pacing. They are also very particular with stopping completely at stop signs and running red lights. There is one officer in particular… I had a court date and no lie, half of the 60 people in the courtroom were his.
