I-95 at Hwy 58 in Emporia, Virginia

Emporia, VirginiaSep 30, 20110 Comments

Even though I have not gotten a speeding ticket there, I travel this route twice a week for work. The Emporia Police Dept. and Sheriff’s Dept. have several areas
where they hide and wait for speeders. On I-95 at the Emporia Hwy 58 exit,
they have several spots to hide there cars from the view of motorists. They also get out of their cars with a radar gun and hide behind trees if you’re speeding they will get you. It’s the same on Hwy 58 all the way to Suffolk, VA. I can’t remember a time driving this route and not seeing two or three cars pulled over. It is diffidently the city of Emporia’s revenue generator.

Sheriff deputy sits in the middle of the median hidden in bushes. You will not see him until it’s too late. Beware anything over 80 is considered a reckless driving offense. He saw that we were out of state going on a trip and said ‘Have a nice trip’

Everywhere!!!!

The entire town of Emporia VA is a speedtrap. Run the SPEEDLIMIT, police officers WILL give you a 3 mph over the limit ticket.

Northbound I-95 travelers depart 70 MPH North Carolina, pass the Va. Welcome Center in a 65 MPH zone, and 10 miles later enter the 60 MPH Emporia law enforcement enterprise zone. There many travelers get a southern sheriff Welcome to Va. to remember. Great for the Old Dominion’s image. Law enforcement in Emporia is about revenue not about public safety. I have traveled through Emporia for decades and been lucky so far. Your only defense is awareness and do not patronize any part of this pathetic community, especially the price gouging Sadlers. I do confess to using the toilets there.
