Hampton, Virginia Speed Traps

Smokey waits at the bend in the road, on the north side of Semple Farm Rd., in the gravel driveway right where the Army auxiliary station is at the edge of Big Bethel Reservoir. Coming eastbound (towards NASA), it is nearly impossible to see, so be sure you’re doing no more than 35 mph.

The vacant parking lot of Air Power Park or the near by hillside of the La Salle Ave overpass/offramp give great cover. Speed limit is 45mph though most go 50-60.

As you approach the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel from I-64 to Norfolk, there is a small inspection station to the right. There is a side ramp there, and the State police like to camp out there. Since this is often a scene for accidents, they sometimes pounce on the unwary. Unless you live here, slow down. The enforcement is spotty, but you don’t know if they are there or not until its too late.
