Interstate I-95 / I-295 / I-64

Along I-95, where the highway merges into I-295/I-64 area, there are a lot of state and local police patroling the area. I was traveling down this highway at night, about 2200 hours, reporting to my duty station…I was pulled over and charged with a NINETY-EIGHT mile per hour speed in a 65 zone (and no, he didn’t even use radar). When the officer testified he even said I was talking on my cellular phone in heavy traffic with my roof and windows off through unknown territory. If anyone is good enough driver to be able to drive through heavy traffic going 65 at night in a strange area shouting while somehow talking on their cell through 98+ MPH winds flowing through a car with it’s windows down and roof off I think they would qualify to be put in the Guiness Book of World Records. My thoughts are that the officer needed his DUI for the end of the month, and an out of state "reckless driver" would suffice (anything 80 MPH + in VA is a CRIMINAL "reckless driving" offense, one most people do jail time for). In any case, try not to drive through Hanover; they suck. If you do get a ticket, get a lawyer; you have -0- chance in the courtroom otherwise. The judge, when I went to court, was giving everyone else who had a ticket a stiffer penalty for "not showing responsibility for crime or expression of remorse"; my stiffer penalty would have been up to a year in jail, so I just raised my hands in surrender and plead "guilty". Now I have a misdemeanor on my criminal record, which was clean prior to this incident. That plus $540.00 fine and 06 month driver license suspension and it’s more than just a "bad day at the office" (I did get prison waived, however). Servicemen should be very careful also; military is not shown any leniancy (opposite is true, if anything). Red light cameras are also present; don’t "rush" the yellow lights in Hanover or anywhere else in VA.
