Hillsville, Virginia Speed Traps

I passed a car and the next thing I saw was a black unmarked Dodge cutting across the median, put his blinking lights on and pulled me over. 78 in a 65 mph. $139 in fines. Officer was very efficient. Probably writes these up all day long. After I was stopped, I set the cruise on 72 and was passed by every car on the road.

mile marker 9 speed drops from 70 mph to 65 mph you make a turn on the highway around a hill and theres at least six Carroll County Sheriffs patrol cars waiting. On tues 9/9/14 at 4:30 pm it was five cars pulled over receiving tickets. besides the fine for the violation their is a $51.00 “processing” fee and a $10.00 “local fee” per charge. so when traveling north on I-77 be very careful in Carroll County they make their income off the highway.

Mile marker (9 -10). several Marked police cars parked in median, waiting to catch out of state northbound drivers. I happened to stop at exit 14 at a fast food restaurant and a “local” person said his neighbor is a Carroll county deputy. and they have an unmarked car driving “slow 65” in the northbound right lane to make you speed up to pass. and makes the circle from exit 1 to exit 14. northbound and southbound.

Coming from NC up the mountain it is easy to go over the new 65 mph posted in VA when you pass the top of the incline. They like to get north bound vehicles.

two trooper cars waiting at base of hill. If you have cruise set at 72 in 65 zone you will automatically reach higher speed at this mile mark due to the down slope of the road. I was driving with roll of cars and my NY state plate caught the troopers eye. I pull over one mile ahead and found a third trooper with a car already pulled over. During my ticket time another Trooper caught their 3rd car to pull over from state of Mass. The state of Virginia is noted for Out of State ticketing probably for fast revenue without dispute since who wants to return to VA when your 600 miles away.

Trooper said I was going 84 in a 65, I had cruise set at 72 driving in a roll of cars in the left lane. The NY state plates on the front of my car bumper begged me to get pulled over.

No sense to fight the ticket, total out of pocket cost is $175. Total out of state scam in my opinion especially after reading this website. I wish I had seen it before trip to Florida and avoid driving no ore than +3 miles over speed limit and only in right lane in VA. TELL EVERYONE ELSE TO LOOK OUT ON I-77.
