I-295 near mile marker 9

Hopewell, VirginiaMay 15, 20126 Comments

the sherriffs office only pulls people doing 81 miles an hour or higher which is 11 MPHs over the posted speed if you call this a speed trap because people are BREAKING the law then you were probably one of them. By the way there have been several accidents in this area some with deaths, also one person pulled over drew a pistol and started shooting at the deputy and NO I am not with the sherriffs office

A huge money making trap for the City of Hopewell thanks to the Hopewell City Sheriff’s Office. See the article done by the Richmond Times Dispatch dated 5 FEB 2012. Sadly the State of Virginia allows such unjust actions by criminal-like thugs such as the Hopewell Sheriff. SHAME ON THIS PUBLIC EMPLOYEE who is is abusing his authority and conducting non- professional actions ONLY to steal money from unsuspecting public.

Hopewell Sheriff’s Office sets up a speed trap only to collect money for city coffers.
Less than 9/10 mile (Yes, less than one mile) of I-295 just happens to pass inside the city limits of Hopewell VA – twice. You can not exist off this this 9/10 mile strip and Hopewell cops can NOT get to this small strip without having to pass through the county: ie no direct access to/from the city to this strip of I-295. There has NEVER been an collision on this strip of 295, yet Hopewell Sheriff’s Office send no less than 3 and up to 5 Deputies to conduct speed enforcement on this small strip of highway that runs through the city limits from 0600 to about 2100 hrs daily – Sunday to Sunday. They use both marked, partially marked (no roof light bar) and unmarked vehicles. According to a Richmond TV station’s report, the city collect over $140,000 per month on this speed trap. PREVENTION: When you see the “Enter Hopewell City Limits” slow down. The Sheriff is vocal and very proud of this speed trap and vows to continue it until he leaves office. Do WELL below the speed limit for the next mile. This stretch of I295 is a large gentle curve and they sit at the end of the curve so they are difficult to spot until you are on them.
Please advise your community!! Thank you

Marked Sheriff’s vehicles and unmarked muscle car, Dodge Charger (red). They don’t call it the Million Dollar Mile for nothing. Speed Limit is 70. Much Over and you can expect a ticket
