Parkway Dr. between Rt. 5 and Colonial Parkway ramp

Williamsburg, VirginiaMar 16, 20120 Comments

25 mph zone. Cruisers sit at the bottom of the ravine catching cars from either direction (both directions are downhill). Avoid this route. They make big money here. I was stopped, even though the school bus in front of me was going about the same speed.

The entire 15 miles between Yorktown and Williamsburg is a speed trap often 2,3 even 4 during the morning commute.

Rt.199 past the Rt.60/143 interchange towards Williamsburg

Williamsburg, VirginiaFeb 19, 20111 Comments

James City County cops are ALWAYS in the median almost every day just as you go over the bridge coming off of the Rt. 60/143 roundabout. You can even see in the grass where they have driven over the same spot over and over in the median. Almost anywhere they can hide between there and when it drops from 55 to 45 heading towards John Tyler these guys will sit. Just dont go any more that 5 over in these areas…or anywhere else in Williamsburg and you should be ok. These guys have nothing esle to do BUT run radar everywhere in the county, well …because nothing happens here.

Colonial Parkway

Your are lead to believe that the speed limit on the Parkway is 45MPH. Between Yorktown and Jamestown there are at least 4 35 MPH zones that have little advance warning. If you are enjoying the scenery along the Parkway you can easily miss these signs. The Park Rangers, who really believe that they are serious crime fighters, sit at these spots waiting for you to come along. At best, the Rangers are Public Relations people but will write you a ticket and give you a hard time while doing it. They will also get you for going anything over 45 along the entire Parkway.
Someone needs to stop these guys.
Be careful if you have to drive the Parkway.

Anywhere within Ford’s Colony’s gates

Williamsburg, VirginiaNov 09, 20101 Comments

Either James City County police or Ford’s Colony security can be found mainly on St. Andrews Drive or Edinbourgh Drive (the two main roads around the gated community). The 25mph speed limit is strictly enforced, and rightly so, since it is a residental community with lots of walkers and bicycle riders.
