On the Guide Meridian they catch people rushing for the Aldergrove border crossing close to midnight. The cop sits in the dark bushes with a dark vehicle just north of the Lynden town cemetery.

Hannegan Rd

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s radar equipped patrol cars typically congregate either at the Smith Rd/Hannegan Intersection in the Victor Hall parking lot, or at Hinote’s Corner/Pole Rd/Hannegan. This is because if they receive an emergency call, they can reach nearly anywhere in Whatcom County from these two central county locations in less then 30 min. with bubblegum machine lights blazing. While waiting for emergency calls, in the mean time, they amuse themselves by setting up/making radar traps up and down the Hannegan. One of their several favorite radar positions is either end of the Hannegan "S" curves between the Laurel and Axton Rd. The speed limit drops down from 50 MPH to 35 MPH through the "S" curves and before you see a radar cop, if you haven’t slowed, you are already nailed. I travel the Hannegan almost every day, and I rarely travel it that I don’t see at least one Whatcom Co. Sheriff radar equipped patrol car on it somewhere. Conversely, I rarely encounter a WSP car on the parallel running Guide Meridian, making me wonder why the Hannegan rates so much traffic coverage by the What.Co. Sheriff (especially on Sunday mornings – nailing the little old ladys speeding to church?)while the state cops doesn’t give commensurate traffic coverage to Guide? Could it be that the Hannegan, which should probably be at least 55MPH speed limit, is a good county revenue source through traffic fines? Go figure. My advice is, follow the 50MPH speed limit on the Hannegan, or you are going to contribute at least $110 to the County coffers! It also bugs me that so many people tail gate on this stetch, when you are going the speed limit, but I guess this is speed trap comment, maybe if the speed limit were raised to 55 MPH, people wouldn’t be frustrated and tail gate?

Police vehicles posted on Guide Meridian Rd. one on the South side of city limits and one on North side of city limits. It is routinely considered suspicious for any outsiders not residing in Lynden, WA to turn into town for any reason. Vehicle license plates are routinely ran with little or no probable cause to stop the vehicle.
