Ridgeley, West Virginia Speed Traps

THIS HAS BEEN A WELL KNOWN TRAP FOR OVER 50 YEARS!

Driving SOUTH from Cumberland, MD, cross the Blue Bridge into Ridgeley, drive through town 3/4 mile, old high school on left, gun shop on right. DO NOT SPEED UP next 1/4 mile! Police car sits behind gun shop, out of site.

Driving NORTH from Wiley Ford, WV, come down mountainside 2 miles, left turn and SUDDENLY you’re in the town limit. Do SLOW DOWN!. Police car sits 1/8 mile, on far side of 6th house on right, out of site.

As you turn on to Alt RT 28 the speed limit is 50 there are two signs on the road apox. 1 mile from each other then you come to a speed zone ahead sign then drop down a small hill at bottom is posted a 25 mph sign officer sets 1/4 mile in parking lot of the school across from Mulligan gun shop. does not have a clear shot with radar gun but will tell you you were doing 40mph in a 25mph. between 8:15 am & 11:00 am

25 mph limit thru town. Should be 35. Got me with radar (36mph)using an unmarked SUV with cops in plain clothes. Pure revenue enhancement for the town. After getting the ticket, I turned around to MD and re-routed my vacation away from WV. With the mines and industry closing down, I’m told that the only hope for WV is tourist $. Not gonna happen if this speed trap thievery continues.

Ridgley is a teeny tiny little town that you will miss if you blink. Their law enforcment has little to do but sit with their radar guns on to catch speeders (which they consider to be if a driver is even ONE mile over the limit)
