Romney, West Virginia Speed Traps
50 west just before Hampshire High School
Left side of Rt. 50 – Just before the high school and just around turn – limit goes from 55 to 45 – state cops sit waiting and you cannot slow down fast enough – plus even if they pull you over they will find a reason to cite you – I was slowing down and the officer (name deleted) lied and said I was going in excess of 55 mph, but he would let me off with warning – same day _ Thanksgiving as I was going home he pulled another unfortunate motorist over in the exact same spot.
State Route 50 near Township of Romney
Romney is the only township of any size on Route 50 into or out of the mountain resorts of Northern West Virginia. It is in a valley, and the speed limit reduces from 45 to 35 as you are descending into the valley, and then to 25 MPH in the city itself. Unless you hit your brakes reasonably hard coming into the town you will be speeding when you hit the 35 MPH sign – and you will be ticketed. It is clearly a speed trap; I saw no fewer than 6 police vehicles while traveling through a town that is basically 4 blocks long.
State Highway 28 near high Street
Going out of town (north), you are driving down a steep hill and the speed limit is still 25. It goes from 25 to 45 at the BOTTOM of the hill. The cop clocks there when he needs a buck.
