I saw lights halfway up the hill behind me so I slowed up I thought he was on mission so I pulled over to let cop go on I guess he saw tag so he pulled in behind me so I stoped.By the way I nevergot close to the cars that was at the light. It is A speed trap and i knew it because I was from summersville so I Sugest that each person tell someone that Summersville is A speed trap And for them to tell 10 people and dont spend Any money in Summersville.and if possible by pass summersville.

My husband and I were returning to Pennsylvania from our summer home in South Carolina when stopped by a local cop in the town of Summersville. My husband was told he was going 61 in a 50 MPH zone. He was not going more than 40 MPH. He had just stopped at a red light and was proceeding to the next light which was red. He saw 2 policemen sitting at the side of the road chatting and laughing when one got in his car and pulled up behind us with his lights flashing. The ticket was $117 which I understand is the standard "toll" for out of state drivers. My husband is to appear at traffic court in a month. He is seriously thinking of driving the 212 miles to fight this ticket because he is sure they assume no one will appear. It will be worth the gas money to fight these bozos. This is nothing but extortion. To date I have emailed the West Va. Governor, state senators, Sommersville mayor and police chief, and every news outlet I can think of to expose these crooks. Please join me in this effort and lets make our voices heard.

Much notariety exists about the Summersville Speed Trap–"The speed trap capital of the world"! So, I was very much surprised to get ticketed there knowing full well the reputation this location has. It must have been a slow day for the Summersville police when I drove through because I received a ticket while observing the 50mph limit. The officer claimed I was traveling 62mph…just enough to get the $117.00 fine. This is not a speed trap, it is highway robbery…a throw back to medieval days when people were held hostage just for passing though and had to pay a toll. It is not enough to observe the speed limit in this town…doesn’t matter…you can still get ticketed. Next time I drive through, it will be at 40mph and I will have 4-way flashers on (in protest). I suggest that everyone who has been victimized by this speedtrap or wishes to protest do the very same thing when passing through.

I’m a local resident who is also against the current local Summersville speed trap….the city has a site www.summersville.org I think it would be great for the people on your site to forward their letters or complaints to the city council. I have customers all the time who are victims of the Summersville Police Department….. they do not practice preventive measures to slow traffic down, nor do you have to be speeding to get a ticket,I recently received a ticket for failure to obey a police vehicle chasing a speeder…

Speed limit drops from 65 to 50 for business district. That is no problem. However, it stays at 50 for approx 2 or 3 miles after the business district is gone and you are back to 4 lane highway. This is where they wait as it does not even feel like you are speeding. I have talked to at least 6 or 7 other people from Pennsylvania who have gotten a ticket in Summersville!
