Interstate 70 MM 7 to MM 14 at Pennsylvania state line

Wheeling, West VirginiaApr 12, 20210 Comments

The year is 2020/2021/2022 and this Speed trap on Interstate 70 is courtesy of the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department… For starters, the road is undergoing bridge construction from the Ohio state line to milepost 8. Here the speed limit is 45mph and rightfully so. People should probably drive 45mph here because it is very unsafe in certain areas.. BUT, the road construction ends between the 7 & 8 mile markers where the eastbound freeway then opens back up to 3 lanes with a full median and full berm and no signs of any construction. There are no signs, no cones/barrels, nothing, yet the speed limit remains at 45mph for several more miles and very rarely do motorists adhere to this nonsensical speed limit which formerly had been 70mph before the bridge construction started (and those that do travel at 45 are actually a hazard during times of high traffic volume)…. There is no reason whatsoever that this wide open rural interstate highway should be posted for 45mph yet the county sheriff deputies use this to their advantage in hiding out in search of victims… occasionally operating special speed patrols for this very area.

On the other hand, the westbound side is a steep downgrade that enters into the construction zone with multiple signs warning of this so it has more of a valid reason for being 45mph; but the eastbound side is 100% a speed trap and they are always out there “enforcing the speed limit” on vehicles travelling both directions- usually when traffic volumes are lower. I have tried multiple times to contact the WVDOH in regards to why they have EB70 speed limit set at 45mph post construction but the guy that is always supposed to call me back never does because he knows damn well that this is nothing but a speed trap! The road has been in this same condition for over a year and it is claimed that the construction will continue until fall 2022..
If the 45MPH limit on the EB side is ever reverted back to the standard rural interstate speed limit I will ask to remove this listing.

Exit 0 (Zero) to Wheeling Tunnel to the Island.

Wheeling, West VirginiaOct 10, 20170 Comments

As you come out of the tunnel at 45 (as it is posted for) and fully aware you need to get over a lane to exit on 0 (zero), cars merge on going fast so your either choice is to go faster or brake harshly to get behind them. When you hit the off ramp at or above 45 you realize that a posting for 25 comes too sudden to break unless you slam your brakes on and get rear-ended. You can see the 15 the same time you can see the 25. Worse is, the School Zone that means in a short distance you have to go 45 to 15. Cops need not even get you with radar for they know it’s impossible to go 15 suddenly without causing an accident.

I-70W& E

They love to hang out in grassy median in the 55mph zone or on the truck weigh stations arounf the hospital area.

Tip: If you have a radar detector than you are set because they always leave their Ka band running so it’s a dead giveaway that they are tagging.

When you cross over to Ohio be careful because they love to tag you from an elevated entry ramp where can not see them until it’s too late.
