Beltline Highway, 12 & 18

Madison, WisconsinMay 16, 20020 Comments

The Dane County Police has a vehicle called the Motorist Service Patrol. It is a large white Ford pickup with a rotating lighted arrow board in the back. It was purchased with grant money to assist stranded motorists on the Beltline, and help out with traffic control during accident cleanup. It has recently been used for speed enforcement, contrary to the original statements made when the vehicle was put in service.

Beltline (12/18)

Madison, WisconsinDec 01, 20010 Comments

On the beltline in Madison (12/18), an unmarked older model Dodge Daytona, White, license (I think) APG 123. It had lights discretely in the back window and a large cb style antena on top. It was only the lights that made me realize it might be a cop. Other cars were passing him not noticing. He had a radar unit mounted to the dash. He was wearing civilian clothing. He was moving in traffic waiting for someone to pass him so he could get them. His radar was not on (I have a radar detector). This really makes me angry. I know the city is desperate because they haven’t made as much money as they wanted from tickets, and that Madison has to have all the new underhanded tricks. I don’t know if it was highway patrol, Madison, or Sheriff’s doing this. None of the cars in my area were driving in an excessive or reckless manner, but everyone was exceeding the artificially low speed limit, except those of us who were wise to the cop. If you inform motorists about this, it will undermine these tactics.
