Hwy 35 going up the hill heading out of town – south

Osceola, WisconsinDec 08, 20130 Comments

As you head south out of town (Osceola) on Hwy 35 you climb a pretty good hill. The speed limit is listed at 25 mph. To enter town, you have to ride your brakes – to leave town, 25 is a difficult speed to maintain climbing the hill. Police cars often are parked along the side of the hwy about halfway up the hill – especially at night when people can’t see them. Shortly after cresting the hill – the speed limit changes to 55 mph. 35 seems a more reasonable speed.

Hwy 35 both going north into Osceola and south out of Osceola. When going north the speed drops to 25 and when you hit the 25 you better be AT 25, they like to write tickets there. Also, as you head south out of town you are going up a hill on Hwy 35. The speed limit is 25 going up the hill and just after cresting the hill it jumps to 55. BUT, they like to sit at the crest and get you for above 25. Especially bad for those that are used to traveling this route because you are already out of town and feel as if there should be a graduated increase in the speed limit(instead of 25 to 55 jump) I think the DOT just got a little stingy on the speed limit signs and the Osceola PD takes advantage. Not exactly a warm and fuzzy welcome to folks.

Beware when travelling through Osceola, especially if you are not a WI resident. The Osceola PD likes to target non-residents. They enforce all speed limits and stops signs. As mentioned above, be very careful of the stop sign in front of the DQ. Very glad they placed it there, but it is heavily enforced. As mentioned in previous post as well, when coming into Osceola from the south, the speed limit does change from 55 to 25 like that, right at the top of the hill, Osceola’s finest love to catch people there, it is very hard not to speed, since the hill is very steep, pretty much requiring a person to ride thier brakes all the way down the hill to maintain the 25mph speed limit. Also, on the other end of town, still heading north on hwy 35, they changed the speed limit a while ago, it used to be 45 toward the end, now it is 35mph all the way until you are just paralell to the high school, then it jumps to 55. They watch this closely, and I cannot stress enough, they do target non-residents big time. There is a lot of MN traffic.

The main thing to worry about in this town is the Stop sign in front of the Dairy Queen. I have been stopped here twice. Make sure you stop completely. I got an $86 ticket on Christmas Eve.
