Interstate 90, exit 53

Buffalo, WyomingMar 10, 20170 Comments

I travel thousands of miles across Montana and Wyoming weekly and this is the worst one in either state. This particular exit is located a mile North of Buffalo where the interstate speed is reduced to 75 from 80 just minutes before the speed trap going North and going Southbound, the speed limit reduces from 80 to 75 at the MT border. This creates a target-rich environment for them and you will have two highway patrol hidden at the exit median with one facing North and one South with coverage nearly 24 hours a day. I know, because I live off that exit and it is infuriating to see that gross waste of tax dollars sitting there licking glazed doughnuts and writing revenue tickets.

Always see Troopers with a vehicle pulled over. Wide open roads with low traffic volume makes it hard not to speed. rolling hills makes Troopers harder to spot. Best to set cruze on this stretch of roadway.

City cops get you coming into town coming down a hill where the speed limit changes from 50 mph to a 30 mph zone. It is a hard place to watch your speed because of the grade of road, making it easy pickens for the city cops. I suggest using second gear.

Both South and North of the town of Buffalo saw speed traps, received a ticket going 15 MPH over limit and was presented with a $200.00 traffic ticket. The conditions were excellent, the pavement dry, sun shining, visibility perfect and no other traffic to speak of…Fell this must be a big fund raiser for the town and extremely excessive.

Just North of Monument Road exit of Lake DeSmet. It is a cross-over between lanes that two Highway Patrol will park at, facing both ways with Radar active. It is situated in a blind spot if you are coming from the South and it is difficult to see if you are coming from the
