Officer said I was doing 42 mph on a 30 and he said he gave me a discount for having my seat belt on. The ticket was $108 and I am sure every time the ticket is a different price. He did not take my registration or insurance, all that town cares about is giving tickets. I have out of state license plate. They only target people with cars out of state be aware there is a patrol car in the front and a truck in the end of the town heading towards Yellowstone.

US 14-16-20 W of Cody at the tunnel

Cody, WyomingSep 19, 20100 Comments

Tunnel speed limit is 35mph which is a bit slow, and westbound especially it is natural to speed up when exiting the tunnel, but around the bend is where the cops like to sit. I have also seen them sitting on the east side of the tunnels, and even within the ventilation shaft in the long tunnel! Better to set the cruise control at 37 and just take it easy through this area (anyway it’s safer when tourists are about at the dam parking lot entrance).

State Route South Fork Hwy near US Highway 14-16-20

This is a "Governor’s favorite" highway and any tickets (which are very common) are doubled due to its designation. And the speed limit is lower than our normal highway speed limits. Anywhere from 45-55. Sheriff & WHP both patrol regularly.

State Highway South Ford near Cody clear to the end

This is considered a "Governor’s Favorite" highway in Wyoming & I see mostly deputies out there. If you get a speeding ticket – because of it’s status as a Gov Fav, the ticket is doubled in cost. Follow The Speed Limit! Is lower than necessary in many places.

Big Horn Avenue near US Highway 14

On the edge of Cody, a brand new highway/street was just finished within a month or so and the speed limit was 30 mph for at least 2 miles of this road (commonly called the Powell Highway) because of no turning lanes and quite a few wrecks. Since this has been so drastically improved with an extra wide hwy, sidewalks, turning lanes, etc, they are still enforcing a 30 mph speed limit! The city of Cody allows a 35 mph speed limit in the Residential part of town, but not out on this super hwy!
