On FM 3235 east of Wimberley before the junction with FM 150

This is a two-lane blacktop, and the major road between Wimberley and the growing town of Kyle in the Austin-San Antonio IH 35 corridor. FM 150, also a two-lane blacktop, “T’s” into FM 3235 from the north several miles east of Wimberley. The junction of the two roads is called “Hays City,” but the only thing there is a cafe and a liquor store.

The speed limit changes from 55 to 60 in here, and the speed trap floats along FM 3235 from place to place between Hays City and Wimberley. This morning there was a Hays County police car pulled back into a wide space on the north side of the road, pointing east, checking traffic for speeders near where the speed limit changes.

This is a stretch of about a mile or two that runs past the VFW post. It’s a two-lane blacktop with a speed limit of 30-35 MPH. The only stop sign on the road driving west from RR 12 is at the “T”.

The last four times I’ve driven this road–all in the last month or so–there has been a Wimberley police unit in an SUV, either laying in wait to catch speeders (for example in one of the VFW parking lots) or giving someone a ticket. They used to almost never be seen on that road–back when Wimberley was trying to attract tourists.

Posted speed is 30 when it should be 35. It is patrolled by the Wimberley
Town Marshall. What great towns don’t realize is that creating a speed trap reputation gives the whole town and all its businesses a bad vibe. No one wants to shop, visit, or live in a speed trap town. When a town has to hire a marshall to enhance revenue, it’s a pretty pathetic place.

Hays County motorcycle cop patrols this 3 mile stretch of road. Speed limit changes from 25 to 35 to 45 and then back to 35. He likes to hide so watch out. He also patrols Green Acres Drive. I’ve never been stopped but have seen him in the area often.
