Johnston, Iowa Speed Traps
United States Highway 218 & State Highway 22
Police cars are allways here I have seen them twice in the same week. They are usally in the medium looking (can be on the entrance too) for speeding drivers that do not slow down soon enough on the exit ramp or are going to fast on the Highway. They are hard to see sometimes when you are coming over the hill. (Some times they will follow you for a couple of blocks then go back on the on ramp.
NW Beaver Avenue near Johnston Avenue
City patrol cars often sit off Beaver Avenue near Johnston Ave. lights, or over interstate bridge near Lower Beaver. Common speed trap.
NW 62nd Avenue near nw 54th Avenue
city cops sit back behind trees waiting for you to go over the 25mph limit
Johnston Drive between Merle Hay Road and Beaver Drive
A short, open, wide, straight length of road posted at 35 mph. Exploited by both county and city police. Without posting, comfortable speed would be 50+ mph. No safety issue. A major revenue source for city and county.
HWY 141 Past Johnston exit heading towards Urbandale
Heading south, once you pass the Johnston exit you come upon a series of hills. The Highway Patrol has an airplane that clocks you coming down one, and as you go over the next, the officers are stationed on the median flagging down those who were over the limit. (You don’t see them at all until you crest the hill, and by then, they are already flagging you down)
