State Route 51 near Willow Street Carbondale, Illinois

While driving North on 51 past the downtown area, and just past the U-Haul dealership and across the street from the Southern Illinoisian offices, there is a used car lot that the police cars sit behind. The speed limit is 30 miles an hour though there is a sign just a few yards past that reads 45. That speed limit does not start until the sign, though most will assume they are in the clear to accelerate t 45. This is where the cops get people.

Wall Street near Grand Avenue Carbondale, Illinois

Right as the road passes by the college dorms, the speed limit drops from 40 mph to 30 mph. There is a large parking lot nearby, and during periods that the local college, Southern Illinois University, is active, there is usually a cop car waiting in the parking lot.

US Highway 13 near Wall Street Carbondale, Illinois

The police usually sit on the south side of US 13, in local business parking lots. The drop in speed limit from 45 mph near University Mall to 30 mph after North Lewis Lane usually catches motorists off guard. Especially at night, with the three lanes open, it is hard to keep speed at 30 mph.

US Highway 51 Carbondale, Illinois

On the outskirts of carbondale by around the U-Haul Rental is a used car dealer on the edge. There is always a cop sitting there pulling one after another over. The speed limit jumps from 30-45 and is right before the highway turns 55.
