Byron, Illinois Speed Traps
City limits on Route 2 / Blackhawk Drive by cemetery
Police sit on edge of town by cemetery where speeds go from 30 top 40 and get people going out of town. I see them stopping people both directions in and out of town. Don’t speed here.
On IL Rt 39/51
Police sit on the overpass bridge with a radar
after the overpass there sometimes are 4-5 police cars waiting to pull over the cars the officer on the bridge clocked with radar.
Tower Road near Byron Hills Drive
Speed limit used to be 45mph but has recently been dropped to 30 mph and a 20mph school zone. I have seen Byron Police Officers in several locations along Tower Road making numerous stops during all times of the day no matter what the weather is. Do not speed here they will write you no matter what your excuse is.
Tower/Colfax Road
Dewey hides across Colfax from Byron High School and likes to get people entering Byron proper with his radar. They usually don’t have a chance to slow down, since the speed limit sign changing the speed limit to 35 from 45 is just a few feet away. Also, Dewey likes to pull people over for trivial things like having items hanging from the rearview mirror.
