Olympia Fields, Illinois Speed Traps
Southbound on Kedzie Avenue (also called Olympian way)
As you pass 203rd St on Kedzie, there is a stretch of the road called Olympian Way where the speed limit is 25-30 MPH. There’s a section of the road before you get to the Metra Station at the Rt 30 intersection where there is nothing but forest preserve on either side. There is a great temptation to speed here and the OF police have a car hide on a bike path at night with their lights off laying in wait.
Kedzie Avenue between 207th & 211th (Rte. 30)
At dusk or dawn the officer backs his/her squad onto the bike bath on the bridge over Butterfield Creek, so the car is pointing north. He/she turns lights off, and waits for speeders. The speed limit is low (30MPH), there’s nothing there but woods, and it’s really easy to speed on that section of Kedzie.
United States Highway 30 & Governors Hwy
Red Light camera was installed (Sept./2008), W/B U.S. Route 30 at Governors Highway.
203 rd Street between Kedzie Ave and Crawford/Pulaski (particularly from Governor’s Highway to Crawford Ave.)
Small village police department with very little else to do, speed limit is far below what road and traffic conditions warrant, numberous places for police cars to track speed without being seen.
