Jefferson, Texas Speed Traps
Hwy 59 from N. Jefferson city limits to S. Jefferson city limits
young officers want to stop everything moving starting at 3 mph over
Hwy 59 and FM 728
A State Patrol officer lives on that corner and runs radar even from his house. He runs 728 at least as far as Liberty and often parks in Berea. He doesnt like any over speed nor headlights out. I only got a warning but Praise the Lord. From 728 he rolls the 3 miles into Jefferson with radar on.
US Highway 59
Both city, county, and state officers are constantly checking traffic and have the reputation of being overzealous in enforcement, i.e., giving a ticket for slightly over the speed limit. They also may be targeting out of county plates.
State Highway 49 near Mulberry Street
Leaving Jefferson going east on TX Hwy 49, there are posted signs for 35, 45, 55, and 70 MPH. I was stopped by Jefferson Police for doing 60 in a non-existent 50 MPH zone. The exorbitant charge for this was $150.00. Unsuspecting out-of-town motorists are apparently the new revenue source for Jefferson.
Liberty Street near Between 9th and 10th
Coming from downtown after work there’s plenty of stop signs on Liberty so after the last one at 7th Street, people think it’s smooth sailing all the way to 11th. They’re flying right along headed towards to 11th street, the main intersection. Usually a motorcycle cop surreptitiously behind a srip of ancient Oak trees just the other side of 10th before the bank drive thru. Sometimes a pair of them, one with the radar gun and the other walks out to flag you down.
