Dunbar, West Virginia Speed Traps
I-64 WB at Exit 53
Dunbar police occasionally sit here, right at the exit ramp for Exit 53 (Roxalana Rd), right before the speed limit increases from 60 to 70. It’s my understanding that WV law states that they cannot cite you for less than 10 over on a “freeway”, so keep it to 70-75 max between the bridge and the start of the 70 mph zone just west of Exit 53.
Roxlana Road
Going toward Dunbar and just past The Roxlana Apartments (on your right) the road curves to the left. Around the curve is a Mexican restaurant and they sit in the parking lot of that restaurant and shoot back up the hill toward the apartments. It is in a decline there so it is hard to stay on your speed. They have shot me a couple of times going as much as 3-5 miles over the speed limit and not stopped me. They may cut you a little slack here but they are still there. Be careful..
Roxlana Rd
The front side of Roxlana (towards Dunbar itself) is 30 mph while the back side is 40 mph. Dunbar Police sit right at the first marker coming into Dunbar waiting for anyone who doesn’t slow down well before the first 30 mph marker. Beware.
10th Street near Dunbar toll Bridge
The Dunbar (toll) Bridge. The speed limit on the bridge is 35 miles per hour. When crossing from the Spring Hill side to the Dunbar side, as you come to the bottom of the bridge (on the Dunbar side) the speed drops immediately to 25 miles per hour. The speed limit sign sets off to the right at the end of the bridge and is unnoticable. The Dunbar City Police set in the parking lot of the shopping center on the right at the foot of the bridge running radar.
