I40 at the I17 on ramp

Arizona Highway Patrol (DPS) wait beside the eastbound traffic and profile all vehicles. They will pull you over for anything and then ask to search your car. If you decline they will bring in the K9 which always seem to get a hit. Then three to six DPS units will surround you and expect for all your belongings to come out and be searched. Once I saw a frightened family standing by the road as their suitcases were opened their clothes tossed out. Even their little pet bird cage (with the bird) was out on the ground.
After going past these scenes over and over again on my way to Colorado from California, I got my pilot’s license, purchased a Cessna, and now I’m cop paranoia free. I’m 7 thousand feet above it all now. If you can afford it, buy an airplane — it’s a wonderful feeling to reborn into freedom, like we had 20 years ago in USA.

If only people would read and understand what the speed limit is in that area, you wouldn't get a ticket. It's just that simple. It's plainly posted what the speed limit is. It's even more simple to obey the speed limit, instead of flying by at 75 mph through the city limits. I've seen it happen numerous times. If you feel the need for speeding, put it in check.

I have lived in Flagstaff for more than18 years. I have seen police ticketing here. It is a well-known corridor for drug trafficking, particularly meth. Do you know the family that was pulled over? Children in the car and a birdcage doesn't amount to a great family if the parents are dealing meth. In the winter months, this area is very, very icy and tourists will often come up from Phoenix and treat it like a raceway to Snow Bowl, thus endangering all the other safe winter drivers. What I have seen more often than ticketing are semi trucks and cars stuck in snow banks or flipped over and ambulances hauling people away on gurneys. I am happy that police patrol here and keep it safer for everyone. I go the speed and have never been pulled over here in all the time I've lived in the area. So, slow down, folks.

I was born and raised a few miles from the 17-40. I'm a long haul trucker and roll through there at least 100 times a month. I live off of I-40 Near Williams AZ. I drive coast to coast. Here's the hilarious part, I don't speed and have NEVER been pulled over in 41 years of driving, 27 of them as a Professional Product Relocation Engineer (Trucker). My vehicles are not speed governed, I simply OBEY THE LAW! And as far as the one commenter who bought a plane to avoid speeding through Flagstaff, PFFT BS
