I-95 North, MM 14
Just adding to the long list of documented speed traps in Greensville County – Emporia, VA. Was pulled over in busy traffic on a clear Saturday morning with other cars passing me. Got the usual VA Law 14-76/A46.2-862 (reckless driving due to speed) – doing 87 in a 70. I had my cruise set on 79. I asked the young deputy sheriff “are you sure you didn’t see the guy in the black Nissan on your radar?” – he said, “no – it’s you”. He was hidden in a cut-through between north/south 95 – and he had his lights on and pulling out before I even came into view. This is a pure “let’s print money off of people that live a long way from here” scam. Called the court – $324 payable on the court date. Called one of the 9 attorneys that send me “you could go to jail” letters – they wanted $189 flat fee, plus I would have to pay the court fees – but they promised they could get it reduced to “defective equipment” which carries no points. I’ll pay the fine – I’ve got positive points on my license – haven’t had a speeding ticket in years. Emporia is running a criminal enterprise – with the sheriff, the judges, the lawyers all taking a cut.
