Lockhart, Alabama Speed Traps
SPRING BREAKERS AND OUT OF STATE TAGS BEWARE…………
A single police car town. sits at outer edge trapping people as the arrive from speed limit of 55 suddenly down to 40
Police sit about 50′ from 40MPH speed limit sign and shoot you before you get to sign. Very strick enforcement! No warning tickets!
Speed limit changes in spots.Yes I was speeding, was stop in front of store. People came out of store and told of other people getting tickets along that section of road regularly. I can tell the town needs money and I think this is just for getting money easly for town. Officer never ask about ins., seat belt, never even got close to my car.I got out of my car and met him in front of his with my I.D. he check that, told me to set down in his car and he wrote my ticket.
Proceeding south on State Rd. 55, near Lockhart, you will see a ‘police jurisdicition’ sign, within a mile, the one and only ‘chief’ of police –only one on force — will lay in wait on the right side of highway with lights and engine off, using radar. Speed limit is 55 mph but here’s the catch: you are literally out in the boondocks, no houses, brush or trees, etc….. no motorist will be driving 55 mph in a situation like this……at night, it is even worse;
The chief will lay in wait, off the highway to the right, about 200 feet from highway, just around a slight curve and small rise in the highway surface — just enough to hide him from oncoming traffic. Basic speeding fine is $126 and goes up dramatically from there…
I was ticketed for 75mph at approximately 8;30p.m., so don’t have any beef other than the setup is obviously a speed-trap.
