Highway 55S, near Florala, Ala.
Proceeding south on State Rd. 55, near Lockhart, you will see a ‘police jurisdicition’ sign, within a mile, the one and only ‘chief’ of police –only one on force — will lay in wait on the right side of highway with lights and engine off, using radar. Speed limit is 55 mph but here’s the catch: you are literally out in the boondocks, no houses, brush or trees, etc….. no motorist will be driving 55 mph in a situation like this……at night, it is even worse;
The chief will lay in wait, off the highway to the right, about 200 feet from highway, just around a slight curve and small rise in the highway surface — just enough to hide him from oncoming traffic. Basic speeding fine is $126 and goes up dramatically from there…
I was ticketed for 75mph at approximately 8;30p.m., so don’t have any beef other than the setup is obviously a speed-trap.
