There is an area around the elementary and high school area that the speed reduces to 35 or on occasion 25 miles/hr. They freequently have motorcycle cops lying in wait to issue tickets. Be very carefull as they take no flack.

The entire town of Flagstaff has become a speed trap. We live here and everyone one of our friend neighbors have been ticketed recently.( some multiple times). Not using turning signal for lane changes ( no traffic)etc. I just paid a near two hundred dollar ticket for driving 7 miles over at the bottom of a steep hill, Sunday morning, no traffic. $138.00 then $30.00 for processing fees. They also threaten lethal force as a form of intimidation. Two weeks ago my husband was pulled over, (no reason) Flagstaff PD wanted to the search the car. When he refused they pulled out their guns. He continued to refuse, as more vehicles surrounded his car. All Officers with guns drawn. He continued to refuse, and they had him sit with hands on the steering wheel for nearly an hour. All the while he continued to refuse a vehicle search. After an hour, on the roadside (Rt 66) they ‘released’ him. No ticket, no explanation…nothing! Bypass Flag if you can — Stay on the highway!

Officers are constantly Driving up and Down 4th St. along with parked behind the old Pep Boys Store and accross the street from that. If you are driving North on 4th St. the speed changes from 35-30 as soon as you cross the Route 66. The officers are not only pulling people over for speeding but also constantly run plates of any vehicle they are behind.

Interstate 17 near Exit Number Kachina/Mountainaire

Flagstaff, ArizonaOct 19, 20070 Comments

As you are coming north on I-17 right before the Kachina/Mountainaire exit, the speed limit changes from 75 to 65. There is a slight incline, and then a slight decline. Highway Patrol loves to sit at the bottom of the decline and catch the people who didn’t slow down to 65. You can’t see the cruisers until after you have crested the hill and by then they have already clocked you. The entire area on I-17 between Kachina/Mountainaire and Flagstaff is patrolled on a regular basis and at some times, quite heavily.
