Elk Grove, California Speed Traps

EGPD officer hides behind the Century 21 building on the north side of Elk Grove Boulevard between Derr and School streets, with radar gun usually pointing at westbound traffic. You won’t see him until it’s too late. I haven’t seen him there very much, but the speed limit in the area is 25 mph and most vehicles go quite a bit faster than that. When I’ve seen EGPD enforcing in the area, it’s usually in mid-to-late morning or early afternoon.

I drove by the other day and saw three motocycle cops picking people off, one by one. They were all hiding in the insect control driveway with one officer running radar while the other two took turns picking people off.

From Elk Grove Blvd to Laguna Bond Ave there is a School Zone. During school hours it is 25 mph. During off hours it is 40 mph. As you turn on to Elk Grove Florin, heading north, you will notice headges on the right side. This is a speed trap where the motocycles sit in wait. Also they will sit on one of the side streets where you don’t see them till it’s too late. If you get past that and start to cross the railroad traps about a mile up the road, they sit there also with radar.

on average there are around 3-4 motorcycle EG police on the corner and nearby laguna blvd. and bruceville rd. monitoring other motorists for not only speed, but other driving habits. There are usually 2-3 patrol cars as well, the big Sierra SUV, a EGPD patrol car, and usually an unmarked blackish-grey crown victoria with a light bar in the back window and two uniform officers in the front seats. Be careful they monitor Laguna blvd. from Marketplacee 99 (by In & Out) to Franklin Blvd. (Bel-air shopping center and Jack in the Crack).

I’ve seen them now just about EVERY time I go by Laguna blvd in the mornings, from about 7-8am til’ about 11am.

The Bike cops hang out is Sweet bean, around 9am-10:30am.
