State Highway 1 near Lompoc City Limit
Entering from Highway 1 to the Northern city limits of Lompoc the speed drops from 55mph to 35mph with little warning. There are constantly local police sitting in the center divider with a radar gun pointing at oncoming traffic. They know that they can catch nearly everyone since the mph change is sudden and dramatic.
Route 1 Between Lompoc and Vandenberg Air Force Base
Route 1 from Vandenberg to Lompoc is basically all downhill. This induces many motorists to speed. That is why the CHiPs love this place. There is no set pattern to their enforcement. Sometimes you see them, sometimes you don’t. Therefore, always be vigilant and on guard.
