Palisades Drive near Sunset Boulevard

Pacific Palisades, CaliforniaJan 19, 20070 Comments

Portions of Palisades Drive marked as 45 MPH are not supported by a traffic survey (45 MPH is artifically low) and are not radar/laser enforceable. Check latest traffic survey to confirm this. Common locations for police to operate are on the gravel turnouts and at the driveways of Sea Ridge condos and Calvary School (but exceeding 45 mph past a school is not recommended anyway).

Going westbound on Sunset Blvd, a motorcycle cop will hide on the side of the street in any given driveway pointing his laser gun out in traffic. No tolerance, stay at 35 mph!

Sunset Blvd between Mandeville Cyn and Amalfi Drive

LAPD motorcycle and patrol units regularly park just west of Mandeville (going westbound) and/or at Minorca Drive between Capri Dr. and Amalfi Dr. and zap zap zap as much as they want and are never at a loss to pick up someone going well over the posted 35mph. These are straightaway stretches and easy to lose your awareness of how fast you are going.

Police hide next to parked cars, or in mobile home driveway,or beach parking exit, also at night when you cannot see them.My Passport 8500 has been able to pick them out ahead of time, but my luck may run out if I get zapped first.

Police car parks at corner of vereda de la montura and palisades drive, and checks for missing front liscence plates. Issues tickets. Police say they are called by an unspecified person to patrol the highlands due to speeding cars. They use K-band,Ka, and… lidar….This one officer had all three in his car,and stopped me for missing plate, which I had in trunk, and asked how my detector worked, and what brand it was .I declined to give him any info. (Hey, we drivers are already at a disadvantage). As I was leaving, he zapped me with Lidar to see how my detector responded.Cool Cop.Did not get any tickets.
