Pomona, California Speed Traps
As you drive west on Temple towards Mt Sac you climb a hill and as you do the sunset is directly in your eyes as you come to the top of the hill. You cannot see the road much less your speedometer.
10 Eastbound thru Pomona during the AM rush hour:
Coming off of Kellogg hill, when you see the 57 ahead of you and Cal Poly Pomona to the right, there is a highway patrol bike cop at the foot of the hill, next to the offramp that merges with the 57. They’re too far away to spot when you’re coming down the hill, and people usually punch it because it’s a downslope.
10 Westbound thru Pomona during the PM rush hour:
Right after the bulk of motorists exit the freeway to merge with the 57 north, just before the foot of Kellogg Hill, right after you cross under the 57, there is a Highway Patrol bike cop sitting there with a radar gun. Since traffic just lightened up and you see a large incline in front of you, you speed up, because you know you’re going to go slower because of that hill. But guess what? That cop doesn’t care that you’re speeding up in preparation for the incline.
Usually right around the bend before you hit Pomona Valley Hospital traveling south on Garey, Motorcycle officer sits and clocks people and a patrol car pick them up. Usually a tow truck is at hand also
Northbound traffic next to fair grounds in AM. Units park in driveway of parking lot. Also, regular check point for license, registration and insurance check for southbound traffic in the afternoon.
Officers are set up just west of the concrete overpass for State Hwy. 57, sitting in a driveway on the south side of the road. Along this stretch, Valley is a main thoroughfare with few stoplights and spacious right turn lanes for residential housing, yet the posted speed limit is 45MPH. Most of those ticketed seem to be college students.
