Groton, Connecticut Speed Traps
Interstate 95 Exit 88 area
The Groton police have nothing better to do, so today (6/5/10) they were patrolling interstate 95. As a CT resident, this is the only time I have seen a local department on an interstate highway. It appeared to be a routine stop, but there were two squad cars. Both from the Groton PD. Watch yourself through this town.
Eastern Point Road and Tyler
Where Tyler Ave crosses Eastern Point Road there’s a cop that’s parked on the side of the road facing north. They’re there mostly to catch people speeding towards Uconn Avery Point Campus but the speed limit also drops from 35 to 25 right there.
Thomas Road near Shennecossett Road
As soon as you turn from Shennecossett onto Thomas, there’s a little parking area for the trail there and the police sit in there. I’ve seen them often. The speed limit on Thomas Rd. is 30.
Mitchell Street near Meridian Street
Police sit in parking lot of the Texaco and catch cars going down the big hill. Usually there at end of second shift to catch all the people going to the bridge from EB/Pfizer. Limit is 25, usually won’t pull you over if you keep it under 35.
Interstate 95 near Gold Star Bridge
Staties sit on the median on the north side of the bridge in Groton and also on the southern side also in the median. Usually have there lights off. if you flip your lights (95N only) at the top of the bridge you catch a glare off of there head lights.
